Pastoral Assistant Support – Secondary School

Location: Hackney, London

Hours: Full-time, 8:00am – 4:30pm (Monday to Friday)

Start Date: Immediately

Are you passionate about supporting young people and making a real difference in their lives? Career Teachers are seeking a dedicated Pastoral Assistant to join a vibrant secondary school in Hackney.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day pastoral support to students across all year groups.

• Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to support their emotional wellbeing and personal development.

• Work closely with Heads of Year, SENCO, and safeguarding leads to identify and support vulnerable students.

• Monitor attendance, punctuality, and behaviour, intervening where necessary to improve outcomes.

• Support students at risk of exclusion, involvement in gangs, or substance misuse, offering guidance and mentoring.

• Assist with the delivery of behaviour interventions and restorative practices.

• Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure coordinated support.

• Maintain accurate records and contribute to safeguarding procedures.

Person Specification

• Experience working with young people in an educational, youth work, or mentoring capacity.

• Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to remain calm, empathetic, and solution-focused in challenging situations.

• A proactive team player with a genuine commitment to student welfare.

• Enhanced DBS on the update service

Desirable

• Relevant qualifications in youth work, counselling, or education support.
