Career Teachers is looking for confident, reliable and enthusiastic Cover Supervisors to work with secondary schools across Harrogate and the surrounding areas. Career Teachers are working very closely with a well established trust local to Harrogate and can offer consistent work within the the trust schools. This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced Cover Supervisors, graduates considering a career in teaching, sports coaches, youth workers or individuals with strong experience supporting young people.

About the role:

As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise classes during the short-term absence of the teacher, deliver pre-prepared work and help maintain a positive, focused and safe learning environment. You will work across a variety of subjects, support pupils in staying on task and follow school behaviour and safeguarding procedures.

About You:

You will be calm, adaptable and confident leading a classroom independently. You do not need to be a qualified teacher, but you should have strong communication skills, the ability to build rapport quickly and a genuine interest in helping young people succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise whole classes during teacher absence, ensuring students remain focused and engaged
  • Deliver pre-prepared lesson plans across a range of secondary subjects
  • Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies and expectations
  • Create a positive, safe and productive learning environment for pupils
  • Support students with their learning and encourage participation where needed
  • Follow safeguarding, behaviour, attendance and health and safety procedures
  • Provide feedback to teaching staff at the end of lessons where required

Essential requirements:

  • Experience working with secondary-aged pupils or young people in a school, coaching, mentoring, tutoring, youth work or similar setting
  • Confidence managing groups of students and leading a classroom independently
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A calm, professional and adaptable approach
  • A genuine interest in supporting the progress and well-being of young people
  • Reliability, punctuality and the ability to follow school policies and instructions
  • Eligibility to work in the UK and willingness to complete safeguarding checks

Desirable experience:

  • Previous experience as a Cover Supervisor or Teaching Assistant
  • Experience supporting pupils across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4
  • A degree or relevant education, childcare, coaching or youth work qualification
  • Knowledge of school safeguarding and behaviour procedures
