HR Officer – Education Sector – Fixed Term Contract
Location: Redbridge, East London
Salary: LBR7 Scale Point 23-25 (£38,256 – £39,276 per annum, dependent on experience)
Contract Type: Fixed term until 31 August 2027 (with the possibility of becoming permanent)
Working Hours: 36 hours per week, full-time, full year
Start Date: As soon as possible / September 2026
About the Role
Career Teachers are working in partnership with a successful and growing education organisation to recruit an experienced HR Officer. This is an excellent opportunity for a HR professional to contribute to a proactive, efficient and high-quality HR service within a dynamic and supportive environment.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering HR processes across the full employee lifecycle while ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and best practice, particularly within an education setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a professional and responsive HR service across the organisation
- Support the delivery and continuous improvement of HR systems, policies and procedures
- Manage the full employee lifecycle including recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding
- Maintain accurate and compliant employee records, including personnel files and HR systems
- Ensure the Single Central Register (SCR) is up to date and compliant
- Carry out pre-employment checks including references, DBS, right to work and qualification checks
- Support payroll processes by maintaining accurate HR data
- Monitor and track absence management processes and probation reviews
- Provide support to line managers on HR matters including disciplinary and investigation processes
- Assist with statutory reporting including the School Workforce Census and Gender Pay Gap reporting
- Produce HR reports, metrics and analysis to support decision-making
- Act as a key point of contact for HR-related queries
- Work collaboratively with payroll, finance and wider support services
Person Specification
Qualifications
- CIPD Level 5 (or equivalent experience) – essential
- GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths – essential
- Degree in HR or related field – desirable
- Experience in an education setting – desirable
Experience & Knowledge
- Proven experience within an HR function, ideally in a fast-paced or changing environment
- Strong knowledge of employment law, HR best practice and safeguarding requirements
- Experience of HR systems, processes and data management
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate records
Skills & Attributes
- Strong organisational skills and high attention to detail
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong IT proficiency, including HR systems and Microsoft Office
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism
