Nursery Deputy Manager – Immediate Start

Pay: £450.00 – £650.00 per week (dependent on experience)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced, dynamic, and highly organised Nursery Deputy Manager to lead a busy early years setting with 50+ children attending daily. The successful candidate must have previous experience managing a large, high-occupancy nursery and delivering exceptional standards of care, safeguarding, and EYFS practice.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • Oversee the day-to-day running of a busy nursery with 50+ children.
  • Lead, support, and motivate a team of practitioners to maintain high standards across the setting.
  • Ensure effective staff deployment, rotas, supervision, and performance management.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative, and professional culture within the team.

Childcare & Curriculum

  • Maintain full compliance with the EYFS framework, delivering consistently high-quality teaching and learning experiences.
  • Oversee planning, assessment, and observations across all rooms.
  • Ensure all children’s developmental needs are met and progress is tracked effectively.
  • Create and maintain a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment.

Safeguarding & Compliance

  • Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or support the DSL team as required.
  • Ensure full compliance with Ofsted regulations, health and safety, safeguarding, and all statutory requirements.
  • Keep policies, risk assessments, and procedures fully up to date.
  • Lead on audits, inspections, and continuous quality improvement.

Parent & Community Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with parents, carers, and external agencies.
  • Communicate effectively through meetings, reports, and daily interactions.
  • Manage enquiries, viewings, and admissions to support healthy occupancy levels.

Financial & Administrative Duties

  • Oversee nursery budgets, fees, staffing costs, and resources.
  • Maintain accurate records, registers, and documentation.
  • Support with recruitment, onboarding, and training of new staff.

Candidate Requirements

  • Must have experience managing a high-capacity nursery with 50+ daily children.
  • Minimum Level 3 Early Years qualification (Level 5/6 preferred).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Confident in managing staff, rotas, and high-pressure environments.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding, EYFS, and Ofsted expectations.
  • DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
