Special Needs Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant (SEN)

Contract: Full-time (via Career Teachers initially, with potential for permanent contract)


About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Needs Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant (SEN) to join a specialist SEN school this September. This is a full-time position, initially through Career Teachers agency, with a strong opportunity to transition into a permanent role within the school.

You will play a vital role in supporting students of varying ages with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).


Key Responsibilities

  • Support students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, tailored to their individual needs
  • Work closely with class teachers and SEN professionals to deliver personalised learning plans
  • Help create a positive, safe, and engaging learning environment
  • Support students with communication, emotional regulation and social development
  • Assist with classroom activities, including sensory-based and structured learning approaches
  • Promote independence, confidence, and wellbeing in all pupils

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with children or young people with SEND (particularly autism), or a strong willingness to learn
  • Is patient, empathetic and resilient
  • Has excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Can adapt to different learning needs and behaviours
  • Is committed to supporting inclusive education and making a difference

Experience in education, care, youth work, or support work is highly desirable.
