Career Teachers is looking for caring, resilient and proactive Behaviour Support Workers to work within schools and alternative provisions across Harrogate and the surrounding areas. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced Behaviour Support Workers, Teaching Assistants, youth workers, support workers, sports coaches or individuals with a passion for supporting children and young people with additional behavioural and emotional needs.

About the role

As a Behaviour Support Worker, you will provide targeted support to pupils who require assistance managing their behaviour, emotions and engagement in learning. You will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to help create a positive, structured and inclusive environment where pupils can achieve their full potential.

About You

You will be patient, empathetic and confident working with children and young people who may present challenging behaviour. You should have strong communication skills, a calm and consistent approach, and a genuine desire to make a positive difference in the lives of young people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with behavioural, social and emotional needs
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students to promote engagement and participation
  • Support the implementation of behaviour management strategies and individual support plans
  • Help pupils develop emotional regulation, social skills and coping strategies
  • Promote a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams and external agencies where required
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour and achievements
  • Follow safeguarding, behaviour, attendance and health and safety policies at all times

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults in a school, youth work, support work, care or similar setting
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach to challenging situations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A genuine commitment to supporting the well being and development of young people
  • Reliability, punctuality and flexibility
  • Eligibility to work in the UK and willingness to complete safeguarding checks
