The Role Starting August

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a children’s hospital school for an experienced Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD).

This is a highly rewarding role supporting children with complex medical, physical and cognitive needs within a hospital education setting. Experience in a similar SEN is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support teaching and learning for pupils with PMLD and SLD
  • Deliver planned learning activities under the direction of teaching staff
  • Provide high levels of personal care, sensory support and communication support
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs and medical considerations
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, medical staff and families
  • Maintain a calm, safe and nurturing learning environment
  • Support pupils on 1:1 or small‑group basis

Essential Requirements

  • T/A or HLTA qualification or equivalent (or above)
  • Proven experience supporting children with PMLD and/or SLD
  • Experience working in a specialist SEN, hospital, or complex needs setting
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and SEND practices
  • Confident, calm and resilient approach
  • Ability to work flexibly in a medical/clinical environment
