If you want to be part of one of the most enterprising, savvy and hard-working cities in the country, you have to go to Leeds.

During the industrial revolution Leeds became a major mill town. Wool was its dominant industry, but since then it has accrued the most diverse economy in the UK and has seen the fastest growth rate of private sector jobs of any UK city. Not only that, but it’s the largest legal and financial centre in the UK after London with around 150 law firms.

Leeds takes education as seriously as it takes business. Under the government Building Schools for the Future initiative, Leeds secured £260 million to transform 13 secondary schools. Not only that, but with four universities Leeds has the fourth largest student population in the country.

Leeds is generally a great city for students. The cost of living is a third of London, there are more bars and clubs per square mile than any other city in the UK and the Leeds music festival allows its ticket holders to hear music from many of the world’s greatest artists, all at one event.

Culturally, Leeds couldn’t be more diverse. If you love music, Theatre Leeds is the home to the Grand Theatre where Opera North is based. The city is also saturated in artists, including iconic figures such as Henry Moore. If sport is more your thing, cricket, football and rugby are all major talking points for the residents.

For a relaxing day of retail therapy, Leeds can offer something truly phenomenal. The extensive retail area is renowned for its selection of shops and is identified as the principal regional shopping centre for the whole of Yorkshire and Humber!

Leeds is as beautiful as it is entertaining. The Leeds Country Way is a circular walk of 62 miles through the beautiful rural outskirts of the city, which is never more than 7 miles from City Square. There are also many large parks and open spaces, with Roundhay Park being the largest in the city and one of the largest city parks in Europe – there is more than 700 acres of parkland, lakes, woodland and garden to enjoy.

Of course, there are far speedier ways to travel than walking. Leeds is 2 hours from London by train and has National Express coaches that run into the city from a host of other UK destinations. Travelling by car is also simple as it’s accessible from any direction in the UK. There is also the Leeds Bradford Airport for all international travel.
