What is ‘Before the Bell’?

 

We’re proud to be part of Affinity Workforce’s ‘Before the Bell’ campaign, an initiative designed to help pupils start their day with the energy and focus they need to learn.

 

Before the Bell is a social impact initiative created by Affinity Workforce to provide free school breakfasts for pupils in some of the UK’s most disadvantaged areas.

 

The campaign is built on a simple but powerful belief, no child should be too hungry to learn.

 

It’s more than a recruitment initiative; it’s part of Affinity Workforce’s commitment to supporting local communities. At Career Teachers, we’re proud to play a role in promoting this campaign and helping raise awareness across the schools we work with every day.

Why is ‘Before the Bell’ Important?

 

Food insecurity continues to rise across the UK. According to the Family Resources Survey (2023–2024):

 

  • Around 1 in 10 households experience food insecurity.
  • Families with children are twice as likely to rely on food banks.
  • 90% of households with very low food security did not use a food bank in the past month.

 

These statistics highlight a serious issue. Many children arrive at school hungry, which can affect their ability to concentrate and learn. By working with Affinity Workforce on Before the Bell, we’re helping ensure more pupils have access to a healthy breakfast before lessons begin.
