Career Teachers are recruiting passionate and qualified Teachers and Teaching Assistants to work in a range of Primary Schools in the Wakefield Education Authority. Successful applicants can work on a full time or part time basis.

We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team at a special needs school in Wakefield. This school has high expectations of its pupils and the whole team work together to ensure the best outcomes for all. This is a full-time position is available from December and will run until Easter with great potential to extend. You will play a crucial role in supporting pupils with severe or profound learning disabilities, helping them to thrive in their educational environment.

This school aims to provide a safe and supportive environment which is both educationally stimulating and appropriately challenging in order to enable all pupils to excel in their personal development and learning. The team are committed to working in partnership with families, other professionals and stakeholders to ensure that the highest standards of care and provision are in place for each child.

Outdoor learning is a feature of the curriculum. The school has extensive grounds that are well developed and play areas have been planned according to the needs of the pupils and to enable them to develop both physically, socially and cognitively. In addition pupils benefit from a programme of Forest School learning both on and off-site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To assist with the personal needs of pupils including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters.
  • To assist with the supervision of pupils ensuring their safety and access to learning.
  • Assist in the implementation of individualised education plans (IEPs).
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to support student development.
  • Monitor and document student progress and behaviour.
  • Encourage social interaction and positive behaviour among students.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with special needs and disabilities.
  • A patient, empathetic, and understanding approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in special education are desirable.
  • Experience of Forest School or Outdoor Learning is advantageous but not essential.
