Career Teachers are recruiting a SEND Teaching Assistant for a Wakefield Primary School. This school has a vibrant and inclusive community dedicated to providing a supportive and nurturing environment for all their students. The school has good public transport links and is not far from the centre of Wakefield.

They are seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support a child with ADHD and ASD in a mainstream classroom on a 1:1 basis. The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher and the SENDCo to provide tailored support, ensuring the child can access the curriculum and thrive in the school environment. The child is in Year 3 but is working to Year 1 levels. Your support will be crucial to developing the child’s social and emotional skills as well as providing scaffolding for academic concepts, building the child’s confidence in a classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 support to a child with ADHD and ASD.
• Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
• Support the child in developing social skills and managing behaviour.
• Adapt learning materials to meet the child’s needs.
• Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external professionals.
• Monitor and record the child’s progress and provide feedback.

Requirements:

• Experience working with children with ADHD and ASD.
• A patient, empathetic, and positive attitude.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Relevant qualifications in education or SEND support (e.g., CACHE Level 3, NVQ Level 3).
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable:

• Previous experience in a similar role within a primary school setting.
• Knowledge of strategies and interventions for supporting children with ADHD and ASD.
