Position: One-to-One Teaching Assistant for a Child with Autism

Location: Special Needs School, Leeds, UK

Contract: Full-Time, Immediate Start – End of Academic Year (Potential for Permanent Contract)

Role Overview: We are seeking a compassionate and experienced One-to-One Teaching Assistant to work with a non-verbal child with autism. This is a full-time role, starting as soon as possible, with the view to becoming a permanent position at the end of the academic year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one support to a non-verbal child with autism in all aspects of their educational experience.

  • Utilize communication aids such as PECS and Makaton to support the child’s communication needs.

  • Assist in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavioral strategies.

  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.

  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to ensure the child’s holistic development.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children with autism and other special educational needs.

  • Proficiency in using communication aids such as PECS and Makaton.

  • Strong understanding of autism spectrum disorders and related behavioral strategies.

  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children with special needs.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
