Supporting SEND pupils in Early Years in a mainstream Primary School

I am seeking a Learning Support Assistant to work in a team to support children with special educational needs in Foundation stage in a welcoming Leicestershire school.

This role is varied, and the school is looking for an adaptable, flexible and resourceful individual, able to cope in a high-pressure environment and deal with constantly changing priorities.

You will be working to support a SEND pupil under the supervision of the teacher/SENCO. The school is looking for a flexible yet resilient person with a caring nature who enjoys working with children. Experience with Autism and early years would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will :

  • be resilient and adaptable
  • have excellent communication skills
  • be self-motivated but also works effectively within the support staff team and with teachers and parents
  • enjoy working with children, helping them develop skills and learn effectively

Are you experienced in :

  • Working with a wide range of class teachers to deliver excellent teaching and learning
  • Coaching children on a 1:1 or group basis
  • Accompanying groups on trips
  • Supporting assessment and evidencing learning
  • Working with the teacher to create stimulating classroom displays and learning resources
  • Maintaining a safe and positive environment for all learners
  • Creating opportunities for all learners to reach their potential, irrespective of ability

You will need:

  • Competency in English and Maths
  • Hold an NVQ Level 2 qualified or above and have experience of working in an early years setting
  • Previous childcare experience
  • a proven ability to work on their own initiative
  • a high level of communication skills and the ability to relate positively to children and adults
  • the ability to use relevant technology/equipment
  • a can-do attitude and ability to work well in a team
  • a commitment to the happiness well-being, self-esteem and progress of everyone at the school
