Special Needs Teaching Assistants Required

At Career Teachers we are recruiting for a Special Needs School in Leeds who currently require additional teaching assistants to join their team on a full time, long term basis. These roles are to begin as soon as possible and be for the rest of the academic year with the view of becoming permanent.

The school caters for students with additional learning needs such as autism, therefore we are looking for people who have a background of working with children and young people with special educational needs.

Role specifics:

  • You will be working with children and young people with special educational needs, in small groups or sometimes on a one to one basis, supporting throughout the school day with all aspects of learning and emotional support.
  • Some students will be non-verbal so prior training of PECs and Makaton would be beneficial, however this training can be provided.
  • You will be building trusting relationships with students, tailoring learning to suit their individual needs and spending time to get to know what works best for them.
  • The ideal candidate will be confident in managing challenging behaviours and diffusing situations effectively.
  • You will need to be adaptable, empathetic and nurturing.

This is a term time only role, working Monday to Friday between the hours of 8.30 and 15.30.

If you are looking for a new and extremely rewarding role, this is an excellent opportunity to join a welcoming team and make a difference to the education and development of vulnerable students.
