North Leeds – Full Time

At Career Teachers we are currently working in partnership with an inspirational Special Needs School in North Leeds. This is a full time role, due to begin as soon as possible, initially on a temporary basis until the end of this academic year with the view of then going onto a permanent contract.

The school caters for students aged 11 to 19 who are on the autistic spectrum, providing the care and support each child needs to progress. The school’s vision is to create a calm and safe environment where students can thrive, feel valued and know that their needs are understood and therefore met. Learning is individualised, supporting specific learning styles. Your main role here as a teaching assistant would be to promote independence, engage students in learning and create strong, trusting bonds with the students.

To be the right fit for this role, you will be:

  • Empathetic and patience, able to understand that each student will have a different and unique way of accessing learning.
  • Flexible and able to adapt the learning appropriately to cater for each student.
  • Strong in your ability to manage challenging situations and behaviours, able to diffuse situations quickly and effectively with as little disruption as possible.
  • Knowledgeable when it comes to Autism and confident in your ability to support learners on the spectrum.
  • Experienced with special educational needs.
  • Familiar with the national curriculum.
  • Good at communicating with others and able to work well within a team.
  • Passionate about making a difference to the lives of vulnerable children and young people.
