If you want to live and teach in a lively city with a big personality, Birmingham should be at the very top of your list.

While being the second biggest and most populated city in the UK, Birmingham has more parks than any other city in Europe (571 to be exact). This blend of metropolitan with beautiful English countryside is one of the many reasons Birmingham is so fascinatingly unique.

When it comes to location, you can’t get more conveniently centralised than Birmingham. It has 3 main line rail stations connected directly to London, has a national coach station and an airport that offers flights to Europe, the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent, North America and the Caribbean.

As well as being easy to get to, Birmingham is a great city to settle down in. House prices and rentals are up to 70% cheaper than those in London, providing a wide range of choices for people of all budgets. There is also a superb range of schools and 5 universities, one of which is in the UK’s top 20.

Culturally, Birmingham is a hubbub of activity. It’s the home of music legends Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Duran Duran, was the birthplace of writers J. R. R. Tolkien and Arthur Conan Doyle and boasts some exceptional artwork galleries with seminal pieces from Bellini, Rubens, Canaletto and Claude. It has also raised some comedic geniuses such as Jasper Carrott, Bill Oddie and Frank Skinner.

Birmingham is many things, but it’s certainly not boring. It hosts dozens of festivals throughout the year and holds events to suit all interests. It has some of the best restaurants in the world, serving exceptionally innovative dishes, and offers incredible nightlife – locals would tell you to check out Broad Street first as it has many bars and pubs in close proximity.

We guarantee it won’t take you long to fall in love with this vibrant and charming city. As the native Brummies would say: “Come on, our kid, Birmingham is bostin’.”
