SEND Teaching Assistant

Location: Primary School, Sheffield S11
Start Date: 2nd September 2024
Contract: Full Time for the Academic Year
Salary: £85-£100 per day DOE

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join our vibrant primary school in Sheffield from September 2024. This full-time position is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Job Role and Responsibilities:

  • Support Learning: Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the class teacher and SEND coordinator.
  • Individualized Attention: Work with individual children and small groups to ensure they reach their full potential, providing tailored support to meet their specific needs.
  • Classroom Assistance: Help prepare and maintain a purposeful, orderly, and supportive environment for learning.
  • Behavior Management: Support the management of pupil behavior, encouraging and promoting positive behaviors.
  • Communication: Liaise with parents, teachers, and other professionals to ensure effective communication and a consistent approach to each child’s development.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and any issues that arise, contributing to the development and implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs).

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Experience: Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant with children with SEND is essential.
  • Knowledge: A good understanding of various special educational needs and strategies to support them.
  • Qualifications: Relevant qualifications in education or child care are advantageous but not essential if the candidate has substantial experience.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact positively with children, parents, and staff.
  • Patience and Empathy: A caring and patient demeanor, with the ability to build positive relationships with children.
  • Team Player: Ability to work effectively as part of a team, showing flexibility and a willingness to adapt.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
