Secondary Learning Support Assistant (SEN & SEMH) – ASAP Start

Salary: £100+ per day (dependent on experience)

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a dynamic secondary school in East London. This role involves providing targeted support to students with SEN and SEMH needs, both in the classroom and in a pastoral capacity. The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff and the pastoral team to ensure every student feels supported, safe, and able to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEN and SEMH needs
  • Assist with behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies
  • Support students’ academic progress and personal development
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and pastoral staff
  • Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour plans
  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience supporting SEN and/or SEMH students in a secondary setting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • Reliable, empathetic, and proactive approach

Desirable

  • Experience with de-escalation strategies and restorative practices
  • Knowledge of SEND Code of Practice
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 TA, SEN training)
