SEN Teaching Assistant – Severe Autism (ASD Specialist)

Location: Havering/East London
Start Date: September 2026
Pay: £93-110 per day (via PAYE)

We are seeking experienced and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to support students with severe autism in specialist and mainstream settings across Havering/East London. This role requires patience, resilience, and a deep understanding of the needs of pupils with complex ASD profiles.

Role Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils with severe autism, following structured routines and personalised learning plans
  • Use ASD‑appropriate strategies such as visual supports, TEACCH‑inspired routines, sensory regulation techniques, and low‑arousal approaches
  • Support students with communication, emotional regulation, and engagement
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and behaviour teams
  • Implement safeguarding procedures and uphold the school’s commitment to inclusion
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to progress monitoring

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year’s experience supporting students with autism (severe/complex needs)
  • Experience in specialist ASD settings (e.g., autism units, ARPs, special schools) is highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of ASD behaviours, communication needs, and sensory profiles
  • Calm, consistent, and confident in managing challenging behaviour
  • Able to build trust and supportive relationships with students and families
