SEN Teaching Assistant – PMLD & SEMH Schools

Location: South London
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-Time | Long-Term Opportunity

Career Teachers are currently recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs from September 2026.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and helping them achieve their full potential in a nurturing and inclusive environment.

The Role

  • Supporting students with PMLD, SEMH, and a range of complex additional needs.
  • Assisting the class teacher in delivering engaging and personalised learning activities.
  • Providing 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual student needs.
  • Supporting pupils with communication, sensory activities, emotional regulation, and life skills.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and promoting independence.
  • Assisting with personal care where required.
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists, parents, and other professionals to support student development.
  • Creating a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN, PMLD, SEMH, ASD, or complex needs is desirable.
  • A patient, resilient, and caring approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people with additional needs.
  • Relevant qualifications or training within education, care, psychology, health and social care, or SEN are advantageous but not essential.
