Career Teachers is currently supporting an Ofsted rated ‘Outstanding’ SEN College in Stockport, who provide exceptional education and support to young adults with a range of complex needs. Their state-of-the-art facilities are designed to meet every individual’s unique requirements, offering a nurturing and inclusive environment for students with a range of needs such as Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), Visual Impairment (VI), and Hearing Impairment (HI).

They are looking for a Teaching Assistant to join their incredibly supportive team on a permanent basis. You will play a vital role in supporting student’s educational and personal development, working closely with teachers, therapists, and other staff to ensure each individual receives the tailored support they need.

About you:

  • Experience working with young adults or children with special educational needs is highly desirable
  • Passionate about helping students with SEN thrive both academically and personally
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • A patient, empathetic approach and the ability to adapt to different needs and situations
  • Experience with Makaton, PECs, or other communication systems is an advantage

Key Responsibilities of a SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide 1:1 or small group support to students with varying needs
  • Assist with the implementation of individual learning plans, helping students achieve their educational goals
  • Support with personal care and physical assistance, where required
  • Encourage social and emotional development through structured activities
  • Monitor and record student progress, contributing to regular reviews and assessments
  • Ensure the learning environment is inclusive, safe, and stimulating for all learners
