On behalf of our client, a successful and inclusive secondary school, we are seeking to appoint a dedicated and compassionate Welfare and First Aid Officer to play a pivotal role in supporting the health, wellbeing and safety of students and staff.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced first aider, healthcare professional, or welfare practitioner who is passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of young people.

The Role

As the Welfare and First Aid Officer, you will be responsible for delivering an effective first aid and welfare service across the school. Working closely with the safeguarding, pastoral and attendance teams, you will provide immediate medical assistance, support students with ongoing health needs, maintain accurate records and liaise with parents, carers and external professionals where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide first aid treatment and care to students, staff and visitors.
  • Manage the school’s medical room and day-to-day welfare provision.
  • Administer prescribed medication in line with school policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of accidents, incidents, illnesses and treatments.
  • Support students with medical conditions and contribute to individual healthcare plans.
  • Liaise with parents/carers regarding student health and wellbeing matters.
  • Monitor and maintain first aid supplies and medical equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with safeguarding and pastoral teams to support student welfare.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety, medical and data protection requirements.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have:

  • A recognised First Aid qualification (First Aid at Work or equivalent) or be willing to undertake training.
  • Experience working in a welfare, healthcare, educational or similar setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational and administrative abilities.
  • A calm, empathetic and professional manner.
  • The ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion.
  • A commitment to supporting the wellbeing and safeguarding of children and young people.
